Sennheiser chairman and co-chief executive Daniel Sennheiser says AI can support or inspire musicians, but cannot create something genuinely new or replace a musician. He described AI as working from what it has been trained on, in an interview with The National.
Why it mattersThe distinction is more interesting than the usual either-or: Sennheiser also acknowledged that AI can produce background music well and help more people make music. The National reports that Spotify removed about 50 million songs it deemed “AI slop” over the past year. That figure is attributed to Spotify, not a measure of all AI-generated music.
Discuss: Is AI best treated as a creative tool, or does its use in music cross a line when the output competes with musicians’ work?
