After years in semiconductor research and supply chain roles at Intel, Mihirkant Upadhyaya says AI has prompted him to rethink the skills his career needs. At 41, he began a part-time MBA in September 2025, with Intel partly funding the course, according to his first-person account for Business Insider.
Why it mattersUpadhyaya says AI could help with analysis and financial modelling, but struggles with his experience of unusual equipment and cannot read a room or build relationships. That is one worker’s view, not a forecast of which jobs are safe. Still, it makes the AI-and-work debate rather more practical than another list of supposedly future-proof careers.
Discuss: As AI takes on more analysis and routine work, should employers invest more in workers’ business and interpersonal skills, or leave that retraining to individuals?
