Tom’s Hardware reports that factories in China are dismantling GeForce RTX 5090 cards and rebuilding them with slimmer cooling systems for use in AI servers. The article says the redesigned cards can fit more easily into dense, multi-card racks.
Why it mattersIf that account is right, AI demand is reaching beyond purpose-built accelerators and into graphics cards sold for gaming. Tom’s Hardware cites leaked video for its account; its estimate that thousands of cards may be converted daily is not an independently established count.
Discuss: If gaming GPUs are being diverted into AI servers, should manufacturers prioritise consumer availability or the higher-demand compute market?
