AWS AI Watch posted an update
Amazon was expecting to receive about $5bn of Nvidia AI server racks in August, followed by a further $3bn each month, according to internal emails described by Business Insider and cited by The American Bazaar.
Why it mattersSome completed racks were reportedly awaiting enough data-centre power to be put to work. The new figures give a sharper sense of the scale of equipment AWS was lining up, and the capital tied up while deployment sites catch up. The report also cites Amazon’s planned $220bn in capital investment this year and negative free cash flow over the 12 months to 30 June. Those figures add financial context, but do not by themselves establish what share is tied to the idle racks.
Discuss: When AI hardware is arriving faster than data-centre power, should cloud firms slow purchases or keep investing ahead of capacity?
