AI compute racks are pushing power, cooling and networking into a tightly linked design challenge, according to Silicon Code Design’s account of the OCP Global Summit. Its report points to a move towards 800-volt power distribution, liquid cooling and faster copper and optical links.
Why it mattersThe practical point: these choices cannot be made in isolation as rack power densities rise. A more powerful system is only useful if its supporting infrastructure can keep up, which makes the unglamorous engineering rather central.
Discuss: Should AI infrastructure prioritise open, mix-and-match designs, or tighter integration to manage the power and heat?
