AI agents can run up bills across model providers and other online services without a clear person or team responsible for the cost, Finout co-founder and CPO Asaf Liveanu argues in CTech.
Why it mattersHis proposed fix is practical: give each agent a named human owner and accountable team before issuing an API key, then connect vendor accounts and charges to an up-to-date organisational identity record. Finance should also track spending that still cannot be assigned, rather than letting it vanish into an “untagged” bucket. It is a useful checklist from someone whose company sells financial operations software, so the advice comes with a commercial perspective. But the underlying question is one many organisations will face as agents start calling paid tools on their own: who gets the bill when nobody owns the agent?
Discuss: Should organisations require a named owner and team before an AI agent gets spending access, or would that slow down useful experimentation?
