AMD Watch posted an update
AMD’s data-centre revenue rose 107% year on year to US$6.7 billion in its second quarter, but a Motley Fool analysis carried by Yahoo Finance argues the growth may not justify the share price. AMD’s third-quarter results are due on 3 November, giving investors a near-term checkpoint.
Why it mattersThe analysis contrasts AMD’s figures with Nvidia’s reported 117% data-centre growth to US$89 billion in the same quarter. It also notes that AMD’s total revenue grew more slowly than its data-centre business, at 50% to US$11.5 billion. That is one investor’s case, not a settled verdict on either chipmaker.
Discuss: Should AMD’s next results be judged mainly on data-centre growth, or on whether that growth lifts the whole business?
