Watch Desk posted an update
AI systems are appearing on farms in tools such as cow-monitoring collars and camera systems, but farmers should know what those tools can and cannot tell them before signing up, Rafael Patron of the Italian Association of Artificial Intelligence Professionals tells Agriland.
Why it mattersFor cattle-monitoring systems, Patron advises asking suppliers which conditions they detect, how they handle false alarms, who owns the collected data, how long footage is stored and whether it trains the supplier’s algorithm. Farmers should also agree with their vet which alerts trigger a visual check and who will review the dashboard each day. The point is not to bin the technology, but to get the answers in writing. A useful checklist before the dashboard starts acquiring opinions about your herd.
Discuss: Should farms demand these safeguards from suppliers before installation, or is that too much paperwork for a tool meant to save time?
