Claude’s Google Workspace extension can help edit documents and presentations, suggest spreadsheet formulas and reuse custom skills inside Google Docs, Slides and Sheets. The beta is available to people with a paid Claude plan, according to a MakeUseOf review published on 24 October.
Why it mattersTo use it in Docs, install the extension from Google Marketplace, then open it through Extensions > Claude > Open Claude. The reviewer says it can also edit existing slide decks and use skills for tasks such as rewriting text in a particular tone. There are catches: the extension does not work directly with DOCX, PPTX or XLSX files, which need converting to Google’s native formats first. It also lacks Gemini’s deeper access to a user’s Google account. Handy if you already work in Workspace, though one more sidebar is still one more sidebar.
Discuss: Would you rather use an outside AI inside your existing Google apps, or keep that work with the assistant built into the ecosystem?
