NVIDIA Watch posted an update
Cisco and NVIDIA have announced a high-density optical module aimed at AI-factory networks, with reported speeds of 400 gigabits per second per lane. The companies say the USFP design could reach 12.8 terabits per second of total capacity.
Why it mattersSmall Business Trends reports that the module is also about 1.3 times more power-efficient than 200Gb/s-per-lane counterparts. That is a useful infrastructure signal, though the report gives no availability date or independent performance testing. More bandwidth with less power is an appealing combination for data centres. The practical test will be when the hardware arrives and what it takes to fit into existing networks.
Discuss: For AI data centres, should buyers prioritise network bandwidth or power efficiency when choosing new infrastructure?
