BBC nature series Blue Planet III is keeping imperfect shots that earlier productions might have cut, in a bid to make its ocean footage feel authentic in an age of AI. The Verge says this includes leaving in floating plankton, boats or buoys and poor water conditions.
Why it mattersExecutive producer Elizabeth White previously described the kind of footage the team might have removed. Real nature, it turns out, does not need a polish filter.
Discuss: Should nature documentaries leave in distracting imperfections to signal authenticity, or should viewers judge footage on its merits?
