Riley Goodside, a Google DeepMind researcher, says prompt engineering has been gradually becoming less necessary for ordinary AI users. The useful skill is shifting from finding the perfect incantation to stating the problem clearly and checking the answer.

Why it matters

A 36Kr article, republished from the Chinese account AI-era, recounts Goodside’s remarks and his agreement that the work is moving into the systems around a model, or its “harness”. Its example is a security tool that reportedly found vulnerabilities using a plain-language request, with the surrounding software and execution environment doing much of the heavy lifting. So long prompts may be losing their mystique, but careful thinking and reliable systems are still very much in the job description.

Discuss: Is AI making prompt craft obsolete, or simply moving the expertise somewhere less visible?
