Councils, schools and police forces are reporting a rise in AI-written complaints, The Independent says, as large language models make drafting them quicker. The article describes complaints becoming longer and sometimes inaccurate, adding work for already pressed teams.
Why it mattersThe practical snag is that AI can make a genuine complaint easier to write while also making it harder to deal with a flood of weak or misleading ones. The Independent cites a 39% rise in UK employment tribunal filings from January to March and says some complainants now face waits until 2029. Consumer champion Helen Dewdney advises giving AI reliable information and asking it to organise those facts, rather than letting it invent the case. A complaint drafted in polished legalese is still only as sound as the details underneath.
Discuss: Should public bodies make complaints harder to submit to manage AI-generated volume, or would that shut out people with genuine grievances?
