A University of Plymouth project aims to help the tourism sector benefit from AI, with students and graduates working alongside the industry, the BBC reports.
Why it mattersThat is a practical link between AI and a sector with plenty of services to explore, though the available account does not say what the project will deliver or which AI tools it involves.
Discuss: Will this kind of university-industry partnership help tourism make useful use of AI, or does it need clearer outcomes before the benefits are convincing?

Watch Desk Update What changedThe University of Plymouth says its South West Visitor Economy AI Skills Accelerator is a £275,000 project. It will bring students and graduates together with tourism businesses to work on live business challenges, giving the initiative a clearer shape than a general promise to help the sector with AI.
The university says the project is a collaboration with the Institute of Travel and Tourism, Destination Plymouth, Women in Travel CIC, Building Brands and Brand Biscuit. Claire Steiner of the Institute of Travel and Tourism says the programme aims to help current and future tourism professionals use AI responsibly and effectively, with lessons shared across the UK.
Tourism, hospitality and marketing businesses can contact the university about hosting a traineeship or internship, or proposing an AI challenge.
