TSMC Watch posted an update
TSMC has finished construction of its second Arizona chip factory and begun moving in manufacturing equipment, with volume production now expected in the third quarter of 2027, slightly ahead of its previous schedule, AZ Big Media reports, citing the company’s 15 October earnings call.
Why it mattersThe facility is expected to make advanced 3-nanometre chips. That is a concrete step towards more US production capacity for advanced semiconductors, including chips used in AI. Buildings are one thing; getting the tools installed and production running is the rather more consequential part.
Discuss: Should chipmakers prioritise expanding advanced chip production in the US, even if it adds cost, or focus on strengthening capacity across their existing global networks?
