Seal is an open-source Android app that gives yt-dlp a graphical interface for downloading media from supported websites. Android Police says it supports services including YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, Twitch and SoundCloud, with a general mode and a custom-command option for advanced users.
Why it mattersThe article says Seal has no telemetry or subscription push, and can also download audio, subtitles and thumbnails. It is available through F-Droid and GitHub, so it is not a Play Store install; the author also notes that private links can be unreliable and YouTube or SoundCloud support may temporarily break.
Discuss: Would you use a sideloaded open-source app for offline media, or do the platform and reliability trade-offs outweigh the convenience?
