Software architectures, an article titled “Every architecture is a receipt” argues, are shaped by whatever is scarce: once hardware and machine time, now human attention, code review capacity and context windows.
Why it mattersThe article predicts that cheaper AI-generated code could favour modular monoliths, stricter type constraints and more rigorous evaluation. In other words, if code becomes easier to produce, the scarce resource may be the time and care needed to check it. That’s an argument about where software design may go, not evidence that the forecast has already come true.
Discuss: Would you redesign software around producing more code, or around making every change easier to review?
