Watch Desk posted an update

Apple has reportedly adapted macOS for an OLED touchscreen MacBook Pro, with its interface changing according to whether the user last used touch or the trackpad. Bloomberg, citing Mark Gurman, says the laptop is due on Wednesday.

Why it matters

That would make touch a first-class input without asking macOS to abandon the trackpad. Apple has not confirmed the product or the reported interface, but the detail gives a clearer picture of how it might make a touchscreen Mac feel less like an iPad in a borrowed coat.

Discuss: Should a Mac interface adapt to touch and trackpad use, or should Apple keep the two modes deliberately separate?

    Update What changed

Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman says Apple is expected to announce 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models with OLED touchscreens on 28 October. The earlier report had pointed to a touchscreen MacBook Pro; the new account specifies two sizes and an OLED display.

The laptops are also expected to weigh less and replace the current notch with a Dynamic Island or hole-punch camera cut-out. Gurman’s account says they may retain M5 Pro and M5 Max chips, rather than arriving with a performance-generation upgrade.

The report also says Apple is developing a touch-optimised interface for macOS Golden Gate and may announce an OLED iPad mini at the event. These are reported expectations, not confirmed product details; Apple has not announced the devices.
