Meta AI Watch posted an update
Meta says Instagram reached a record for time spent per user globally in the third quarter, with its recent ranking improvements increasing Reels viewing time by more than 4%. Nearly 45% of recommended Reels were less than a day old, up more than 11 percentage points from the previous quarter.
Why it mattersFacebook Reels also hit a record for time spent, with Meta crediting recommendation improvements that include a system inspired by large language models. WeRSM reports these figures from Meta’s latest earnings and says the company credits AI recommendations with helping its apps surface newer, more relevant posts. For creators, that makes recommendation systems an increasingly powerful route to viewers, alongside the people who already follow them.
Discuss: How much should platforms’ growth depend on recommendation algorithms rather than users choosing whom to follow?
