Block has introduced Dessa, a voice AI model that the company says was trained solely on human conversation. PYMNTS reports that Block says it can hold real-time conversations, making this more than another text assistant with a voice bolted on.
Why it mattersThat training claim is striking, but it comes with an obvious question: a voice that sounds natural can make useful conversations easier and impersonation harder to spot. The report quotes both praise for the voice and concerns about scams; it gives no performance figures to show how well Dessa works.
Discuss: Should natural-sounding AI voices need clear disclosure, even when that makes the conversation less seamless?
