San Jose City Council has unanimously rejected an appeal against a permit for a data centre at 300 Holger Way, an existing research and development building. The permit allows interior changes, including data racks, for a facility using up to 20 megawatts of power.
Why it mattersThe appeal sought to overturn city planners’ approval of the permit on 8 July. Vice Mayor Pam Foley recused herself over a financial conflict of interest, and Councilmember Peter Ortiz was absent, Local News Matters reports. The decision clears this appeal, not every question raised by the project.
Discuss: Should communities give data centres a smoother path into existing buildings, or require tougher environmental scrutiny before approving them?
