An Argentine startup is using AI to spot potential wildfires in satellite imagery and alert emergency responders, with no specialist hardware required. Satellites on Fire says its platform monitors 92 million hectares across 21 countries, turning early detection into a practical tool rather than another distant promise about AI.
Why it mattersWhat happened The platform analyses thermal satellite imagery alongside data from ground cameras, drones, weather systems and lightning detection. It sends alerts by WhatsApp, text message and email. MyModernMet reports that more than 70,000 people use the service, which assisted with more than 2,000 wildfires in 2025. Argentina’s National Firefighters Council has adopted it across 70 fire stations, the article says.
