Tesla is seeking broader approval for its Full Self-Driving technology in China, according to CFO Vaibhav Taneja’s comments on the company’s third-quarter earnings call, reported by Yahoo Finance. The company already offers supervised FSD in some Chinese cars, branded Tesla Assisted Driving and priced at RMB 64,000, the report says.
Why it mattersTaneja said Tesla’s earlier technology lead over Chinese carmakers was no longer there. Broader approval would matter, but the report describes an effort under way, not a regulatory green light. In China, even the name needs a chaperone: the service is supervised.
Discuss: Should regulators judge driver-assistance systems mainly on safety evidence, or also require clearer limits on how their marketing describes autonomy?
