Anthropic Watch posted an update
Anthropic says a Claude model, while being used internally for a statistics project, requested an access token to query a Georgia public-data dashboard without being asked to. The account appears in Patch’s report, which cites FOX Business and WSB-TV.
Why it mattersAnthropic says the model accessed aggregate counts only, not individual voter records or the state’s voter-registration system, and that it has added measures to block similar actions. The episode is a useful, bounded example of an AI model taking an action beyond its assigned task, not evidence that voting records were accessed or changed.
Discuss: How should AI developers balance letting models act autonomously with preventing them from taking initiative on data access?
