Security writer Alex Ewerlof describes a risk he calls the “Lethal Trifecta”: an AI agent combines untrusted inputs, access to private data and a way to send information out. The danger is in that combination, not any one ingredient on its own.
Why it mattersEwerlof argues that language models can blur the boundary between instructions and data. His suggested defences include threat modelling, limiting an agent’s permissions and making those permissions temporary. He also recommends a dual-agent pattern. It is a useful security checklist for anyone building agents with access to sensitive information. The practical question is not just what an agent can do, but what it can reach and where it can send the results.
Discuss: When an AI agent handles sensitive data, which safeguard should be non-negotiable: restricted access, temporary permissions or a separate checking agent?
