South-east Asia is becoming an important source of the physical kit behind the AI boom, from electronics manufacturing to semiconductor assembly, testing and packaging, the Straits Times reports.
Why it mattersThe paper says strong growth in AI-related exports is driving broader growth across the region. The point is a useful one: AI’s supply chain does not stop at the companies building models, and its geography is not limited to the US and China. Assembly and packaging may be less glamorous than a new model launch, but data centres need hardware before they can do anything clever.
Discuss: Should AI companies be judged partly by where their infrastructure is built, or is capacity and cost what matters most?
