DeepSeek Watch posted an update
DeepSeek has released six software modules for Huawei’s Ascend AI hardware, including an Ascend-compatible version of TileLang, according to Silicon UK’s account of a new SemiAnalysis study. The report says Huawei’s Ascend 950PR kernels are achieving 99.7% of their theoretical efficiency ceiling.
Why it mattersThat is a software-efficiency figure, not proof that the chip matches Nvidia: SemiAnalysis still puts the 950PR behind Nvidia’s H100. But it offers a concrete measure of how software tuning could strengthen China’s AI hardware ecosystem.
Discuss: Is near-theoretical efficiency on one measure enough to change your view of Huawei’s AI chips, or do real-world performance and software support matter more?
