Researchers at Micron have demonstrated a way to ease the KV-cache memory bottleneck in multi-GPU servers, using shared memory accessed over CXL. The reported result: 2.8 times the throughput and 2.9 times faster time to first token than standard DRAM.
Why it mattersBlocks & Files says the system combined cross-host KV sharing with NVIDIA Dynamo on Micron’s Great Abaco cluster. That makes the finding relevant to AI operators trying to serve models faster without treating GPU memory as an endless cupboard. Those figures describe the researchers’ system and comparison, not a general performance promise for every deployment. Still, shared memory could give inference infrastructure more room to breathe. Should AI providers prioritise faster serving, or simpler systems that are easier to operate?
