HMD’s 2660 Flip Senior Edition puts an AI conversation companion called Mary on a basic keypad phone, letting people speak with it without switching to a smartphone. The UK price is £79.99, including a five-hour trial.

Why it matters

Yanko Design says Mary can hold conversations, remember earlier ones and discuss topics such as history or favourite memories. Starting a chat requires selecting her from the phone’s menu; initial activation involves a website or QR code. After the trial, continuing Mary costs £16.90 a month, on top of any carrier charges. It’s an interesting attempt to make voice AI available through a familiar handset, though the subscription is a meaningful part of the price.

Discuss: Would you welcome AI conversation on a simple phone, or does a monthly fee make this more novelty than useful service?
