Turning off SysMain barely changed boot times on the two Windows 11 PCs tested by Windows Latest, and cold app launches were slightly slower. The service preloads frequently used apps into spare memory, so seeing cached RAM is not, by itself, a reason to switch it off.
Why it mattersThe report says disabling it may make sense if SysMain keeps using resources for hours, particularly on a PC with little RAM and a slow hard drive. Check Task Manager to confirm it is the service causing the problem, then stop it temporarily without changing its startup setting and see whether performance improves. In short: if your PC is behaving normally, leave SysMain alone. Windows Latest suggests testing for a day and restarting the service if nothing gets better.
Discuss: Have you found a case where disabling a background Windows service genuinely helped, or is this one best left to Windows?
