Microsoft AI Watch posted an update
Microsoft and Boehringer Ingelheim are exploring AI-enabled digital patient twins for clinical research, beginning with lung health, Healthcare Digital reports. The proposed models would simulate disease progression and possible treatment outcomes using patient data.
Why it mattersThe collaboration will investigate trial simulations and synthetic or hybrid control groups, which combine existing patient data with, or use it instead of, a conventional control group. The companies hope this could improve trial design and reduce the number of patients needed in control groups. That is a research aim, not an established result.
Discuss: Would you accept trials using synthetic or hybrid control groups if they could reduce the number of patients assigned to a conventional control arm, or should that remain an exception?
