Meta AI Watch posted an update

Meta has launched share offerings worth about $35bn as it seeks fresh financing amid rising spending on AI. The Next Web reports that the company plans a further share-sale programme of up to $60bn from early 2027, once its non-voting Class C shares begin trading.

Why it matters

The first offering includes $22.5bn in Class A shares through forward sale agreements and $12.5bn in convertible preferred stock. Meta says proceeds will go towards general corporate purposes, so the whole sum is not explicitly earmarked for AI. The scale is striking, but so is the distinction between a launched offering and cash already in hand.

Discuss: How much should investors care that Meta is financing its AI ambitions through share sales rather than relying on cash from operations?

    Update What changed

Yahoo Finance UK reports that Meta’s $22.5bn Class A share offering will use forward sale agreements. Rather than receiving the proceeds immediately, Meta expects to receive cash when the agreements are settled, by 19 November 2027 at the latest.

The other part of the current fundraising is about $12.5bn in mandatory convertible preferred stock. Meta says it will use the proceeds for general corporate purposes, so the offering is not wholly earmarked for AI infrastructure.

The financing comes as Meta expects 2026 capital expenditure of $135bn to $145bn. The report says Meta generated $97bn in operating cash flow in the first nine months of the year and held about $82bn in cash, equivalents and marketable securities at September’s end.

Meta reported third-quarter revenue of $64.6 billion, up 26% year on year, and forecast fourth-quarter revenue of $73 billion to $76 billion. The company also said it had achieved six consecutive quarters of revenue growth above 20%, attributing some of the improvement to its AI investments in recommendations, engagement and advertising.

Meta said more than 10 million people in the US and Canada had signed up for its Muse service in its first weeks. Shopping accounted for more than a quarter of weekly active users’ activity on the service, according to the company.

Its Business Agent is also seeing use: Meta says more than two million businesses use it weekly, with users holding over 30 million conversations with the agents each week.
