Stripe is gaining a leading role in how AI shopping agents pay, with one-time virtual cards reportedly giving it a way to handle agent purchases while limiting card networks’ control of the transaction.
Why it mattersThe Information reports that Visa and Mastercard have developed their own approach, using customers’ existing cards to give the networks more visibility into purchases made by agents. That technology remains at an early stage, the report says. The contest is over who handles the payment when software shops on someone’s behalf.
Discuss: Should AI agents pay through disposable virtual cards, or use existing card networks’ systems?
