Impinj is pitching “Physical Intelligence” as the real-time item data that AI needs to make useful decisions about stock, parcels and other things in the physical world. Its vice-president Matt Branda says RAIN RFID can identify and track items automatically, without batteries or a direct line of sight.
Why it mattersThe practical point is that a model cannot act on an item that a business has failed to see. Impinj says more than 160 billion items are already connected using its technology, though the wider promise of AI-driven operations is still the company’s case to make. There’s more to useful AI than the model.
Discuss: Should companies invest first in better real-world data, or in systems that can act on it?
