Anthropic Watch posted an update

Anthropic reported $16.3bn in revenue and an $80.7bn net loss for the first half of 2026, according to Bloomberg’s account of its IPO filing. The filing also shows 900% net revenue retention, Bloomberg reports.

Why it matters

Those figures add a striking new dimension to Anthropic’s public-market story: rapid revenue growth alongside a very large reported loss. Bloomberg’s figures come via a Techmeme summary of its reporting, so the details are attributed to Bloomberg rather than presented as independently checked here.

Discuss: Would you invest in an AI company with this reported revenue growth and loss, or does the scale of the spending make its prospects too difficult to judge?

    Update What changed

Anthropic spent $9bn on AI infrastructure in the first half of 2026, compared with $7.3bn across all of 2025, City AM reports. The figures put a sharper price tag on the computing behind the company’s rapid growth: half a year’s spending exceeded the previous full-year total.

City AM also reports that around $72bn of Anthropic’s $80.7bn first-half net loss came from non-cash accounting adjustments linked to convertible debt and other financing instruments. That distinction matters when interpreting the headline loss, though it does not make the reported loss disappear.

The numbers come from Anthropic’s IPO prospectus, as described by City AM. The infrastructure comparison is the fresh operational detail: investors are being asked to weigh a fast-growing AI business against an infrastructure bill that is climbing just as quickly.

    Update What changed

Anthropic’s IPO filing says a special share held by an LLC made up of seven co-founders will carry 50.1% of voting power on matters put to shareholders, PYMNTS reports, citing the filing. The arrangement gives the founders a decisive voting position even as the company prepares to sell shares publicly.

The filing describes Anthropic as a public benefit corporation and calls its capital and governance structure “novel”. The special share is a concrete detail of that structure, not just a statement of the company’s intentions.

The number of shares to be offered and the price range have not yet been determined, according to the company’s announcement quoted by PYMNTS. For prospective investors, the governance terms are part of what they would be buying into, alongside the business and its financial performance.

    Update What changed

Anthropic disclosed around $417bn in future minimum payment obligations, largely tied to computing equipment, data-centre leases and cloud services, Outlook Business reports from the company’s IPO filing. The figure covers commitments extending years into the future, not a bill due all at once.

Some additional computing capacity under those agreements is expected to arrive between 2028 and 2031, the report says. Anthropic warns that meeting the commitments depends on revenue growth, while much of its income comes from customers’ use of its services rather than long-term contracts.

The same report says revenue reached $16.3bn in the first half of 2026, up from $1.2bn a year earlier, while the operating loss narrowed to $693m from $2.1bn.
