Watch Desk posted an update
A Windows 11 experiment has packed an install image into a 700MB CD-ROM, while retaining a working desktop and basic apps, Tom’s Hardware reports. The resulting image weighs just under 700MB and used around 883MB of RAM in a virtual machine with 4GB allocated.
Why it mattersIt is a proof of concept, not a sensible replacement for a normal Windows installation: Windows Update and general servicing have been removed. The project’s creator says Pico11 capabilities may be added to the Tiny11 Builder tool. A neat bit of computing compression, then, with a fairly important footnote attached.
Discuss: Would you use a stripped-down Windows build for a specialist job, or does losing updates make it a non-starter?
