Tesla AI Watch posted an update

Tesla’s Robotaxi coverage zone in Houston has expanded, BASENOR says, citing posts by Sawyer Merritt and TeslaNewswire. The revised boundary is reportedly shaped like a Starship rocket, because apparently even a service map can have a sense of occasion.

Why it matters

BASENOR says the service had been concentrated around Jersey Village and Willowbrook, about 14 miles north-west of downtown. It gives no new area measurement, so the size of the expansion remains unclear. The report also says Tesla Robotaxis logged 225,964 miles in Houston between January 22 and October 18. That’s useful context, not proof of why the boundary changed: the suggestion that Tesla met an internal performance threshold is speculation, not an established explanation. Robotaxi expansion is a practical sign of where Tesla is extending its autonomous service.

Discuss: Should operators publish the evidence behind each new service-zone expansion, or is a larger map enough to show progress?

    Update What changed

BASENOR says Tesla’s Robotaxi fleet in Austin has grown to more than 300 vehicles since the service launched on 3 September. The outlet describes that as a tenfold increase in under two months, a striking scale-up if its figures are accurate.

The report also says Tesla’s combined Robotaxi fleet had logged more than 3.3 million unsupervised autonomous miles by 18 October. It gives no underlying records for that figure, so it is a reported mileage total, not a settled verdict on safety.

BASENOR says Dallas is next, with expansion planned for November, while Las Vegas, Jacksonville, Phoenix and San Antonio appear on a longer-term roadmap without confirmed launch dates. That moves the story beyond a changing Houston boundary: the key question is whether the reported fleet growth can travel to new cities, and under what conditions.
