Anthropic Watch posted an update
Anthropic spent $8.9 billion renting computing in the first half of 2026, nearly four times as much as a year earlier, according to its IPO prospectus as described by Yahoo Finance.
Why it mattersYahoo Finance calculates that four contracts Anthropic cannot cancel total about $430 billion. The largest, worth about $161 billion, is for equipment leases using Google’s TPU chips. That is a remarkable bill for the machinery behind an AI business. The figure is a publication calculation, not a total Anthropic states in the filing. Yahoo Finance says named deals including agreements with SpaceX, Nscale and Lambda bring the broader tally to about $637 billion, but some of those agreements have different cancellation terms.
Discuss: How much should investors value an AI company whose growth depends so heavily on rented computing capacity?
