Elon Musk predicts that few of the more than 200 companies renting computing power for AI will survive independently. TechSpot reports that he said lenders had largely stopped financing providers without substantial income beyond AI data centres.
Why it mattersMusk also said SpaceX had secured $40 billion in GPU financing. TechSpot notes Bloomberg reported that the debt package was not yet finalised, so that funding detail is not settled. The warning lands as AI infrastructure firms depend on borrowed money to buy the chips they rent out.
Discuss: Is this a credible sign the neocloud boom is due a shakeout, or is Musk talking his book?
