Anthropic Watch posted an update

Anthropic’s public IPO filing reveals the scale of the computing bill behind its AI ambitions: the company has signed roughly $430 billion in non-cancellable commitments for future computing, Yahoo Finance reports. It also reported $16.3 billion in revenue and an $80.7 billion net loss for the first half of 2026, most of that loss attributed to accounting charges.

Why it matters

What happened Yahoo Finance’s account of Anthropic’s S-1 says the company spent $8.9 billion renting computing in the first half of 2026, nearly four times the amount a year earlier, while spending $482 million on its own property and equipment. Yahoo calculated the roughly $430 billion in commitments across four deals: about $161 billion with Broadcom, $115 billion with Google, $110 billion with Amazon and $45 billion with Microsoft.

Discuss: Should investors see these enormous compute commitments as necessary fuel for growth, or as a risk Anthropic must prove it can afford?

    Update What changed

Anthropic’s IPO prospectus describes both the potential benefits of advanced AI and risks the company says it may not yet be equipped to address. Yahoo Finance says the 300-plus-page filing uses the word “humanity” 21 times.

The filing describes “Powerful AI” as technology capable of reasoning through complex tasks and interacting with the physical world, including digitally controlling laboratory equipment. It lists possible benefits such as faster drug discovery, improved disease detection and more efficient power grids.

It also warns that Anthropic’s security capabilities may not fully address sophisticated attackers, including state-backed groups, as they gain access to more powerful technology.

Anthropic says no information security programme can prevent every possible incident, and acknowledges that it may operate with known gaps while its controls develop.

    Update What changed

Yahoo Finance reports that, as of 30 September, more than 11,900 customers had each generated at least $100,000 in revenue for Anthropic over the previous 12 months. More than 1,900 of them generated at least $1 million, offering a further measure of how widely the Claude business has spread among larger customers.

The filing also says Anthropic’s seven co-founders will retain 50.1% of voting power on general shareholder matters after the offering. A separate trust will have authority to appoint a majority of the board, giving investors a more detailed picture of how control is set to work.

Amazon holds $6.2 billion in Anthropic convertible debt and has agreed to provide up to $15 billion in financing through three $5 billion tranches, Yahoo Finance says. Anthropic has not disclosed how many shares it plans to sell or the expected offering price.

    Update What changed

Anthropic’s IPO filing adds a major compute commitment missing from the earlier account: Yahoo Finance says the company could spend up to $120.5 billion with SpaceXAI for access to Nvidia GPUs. The prospectus says full capacity is expected in December 2026, with charges reaching about $3.1 billion a month once it is delivered.

The filing also describes Anthropic Direct, a hybrid approach in which the company leases dedicated data-centre facilities and specialised accelerators alongside buying cloud capacity. Anthropic says this could offer long-term economic advantages, though the filing excerpt does not quantify them.

Yahoo Finance reports that Anthropic had about 5,300 employees at 30 September and generated more than $6.6 million in revenue per employee over the past year, up from $1.4 million a year earlier.
