A mosquito trap developed by USF startup Digitomy uses AI to identify mosquito species, and achieved more than 98% accuracy in laboratory testing, TechXplore reports.
Why it mattersThat could help distinguish which mosquitoes are present, a useful step in monitoring disease-carrying species. The reported lab result does not establish that the trap has reduced dengue transmission in the field, so that bigger claim needs evidence beyond a promising accuracy figure.
Discuss: For mosquito-control teams, should laboratory identification accuracy be enough to justify deploying a new trap, or should real-world evidence of reduced disease spread come first?
