Anthropic Watch posted an update
Anthropic’s seven co-founders each hold roughly 240 million shares, worth about $14 billion apiece at the price used in the company’s latest private funding round, Fortune reports, citing its IPO filing. That is a paper valuation, not cash in the bank.
Why it mattersThe filing also says the founders have pledged to give 80% of their Anthropic equity to charity. The pledges are voluntary and revocable, with no timing or recipients set. Giving away shares would not necessarily mean giving up control: the founders’ LLC holds a special share carrying 50.1% of voting power. A rather consequential footnote to a very large fortune.
Discuss: Should founders retain majority voting control if they give away most of their economic stake?
