Huawei AI Watch posted an update
A Brazilian bank’s legacy software was modernised in six weeks using AI agents, according to Stefanini’s director of AI, Giovanni Gomes, in an interview published by Huawei. The project covered about 12 COBOL programmes and 200,000 lines of code, against an expected three-month timeline.
Why it mattersGomes says the work used seven or eight agents for tasks including documenting the code, generating replacements, quality control and deployment. The account is a company case study, but it gives a concrete picture of AI being used to tackle an awkward bit of computing infrastructure: understanding old systems before moving them on. The point is not that banks can simply press a button marked “modernise”. Gomes says the process is gradual, with business rules preserved as the underlying architecture changes.
Discuss: Should banks trust AI-assisted migration for critical legacy systems, or keep humans in the lead at every step?
