Anthropic Watch posted an update
Anthropic president Daniela Amodei has questioned whether OpenAI’s Pentagon deal reflects a principled position or an “opportunistic moment”. The remarks put the rivalry over military AI restrictions back in public view.
Why it mattersIn an interview with biographer Walter Isaacson, Amodei said Anthropic could not control other companies and could only take what it considered a principled stand. The New York Post published an excerpt; the full interview is scheduled to air Tuesday. It is a pointed challenge, not evidence of what motivated OpenAI. But when AI firms draw different lines around military use, those lines matter to more than their competitors.
Discuss: Should companies be judged mainly by the restrictions they set, or by whether rivals’ motives are fair game too?
