The RealReal says it is updating its bot defences to make it harder for AI agents to shop on its site, The Verge reports. The move follows the outlet’s account of Meta’s Muse repeatedly placing an item in a shopping basket as soon as its 20-minute hold expired.
Why it mattersThat exploit could keep a secondhand listing unavailable to other shoppers without buying it. The retailer’s change is a practical reminder that agentic shopping can run into the rules and protections built for people, not just the checkout button.
Discuss: Should retailers block AI shopping agents by default, or offer them a controlled way to shop without disrupting human customers?
