NVIDIA Watch posted an update
BT plans to trial AI-powered radio access network technology on EE’s live mobile network, with its first sites due in Birmingham in 2027. The test moves AI-RAN from controlled lab conditions onto a network carrying customer traffic.
Why it mattersThe trial will use NVIDIA Aerial RAN Computer alongside Nokia 5G software. BT says it will monitor network capacity, reliability and spectral efficiency, to see whether lab performance can carry over to a working network. That is a meaningful step for AI in telecoms, but not a promise of faster connections for EE customers yet. The trial’s results will have to do the talking.
Discuss: Should operators test AI on live networks sooner, or wait for stronger evidence from the lab?
