The creators of Babyqueen, a five-member virtual K-pop-inspired group, have apologised after its fictional lead singer, Mity, announced she was pregnant and leaving the band. Metro reports that the creators said they invented the scenario and deleted the post.
Why it mattersThe creators said the demands of managing five online personas had become too much. The announcement drew criticism for trivialising women’s reproductive experiences, the report says. It’s a small but revealing collision between AI-made entertainment and real-life subjects. When a virtual character borrows the language of personal experience, the audience may not take it as harmless make-believe.
Discuss: Should AI-created characters be free to invent intimate life events for engagement, or should creators treat those stories with the same care as real people’s experiences?
