A Chapman University survey places fears that AI could harm the political process third among Americans’ listed fears, and fears about its economic impact seventh, Futurism reports.
Why it mattersThe survey’s top two concerns were corrupt government officials and the prospect of another world war. Futurism also says AI fears ranked above worries about a loved one becoming seriously ill or dying. It’s a striking measure of public anxiety, not evidence that those feared outcomes are likely.
Discuss: How should policymakers take public fear of AI seriously without treating fear itself as a forecast?
