AWS says WorkSpaces Core Managed Instances now supports the ModifyVolume API, letting customers change a volume’s size, type, IOPS or throughput without detaching it or restarting the instance.
Why it mattersTeams can increase storage up to 16,384 GiB, adjust performance settings on supported volumes and track progress through Amazon EC2’s DescribeVolumesModifications operation. AWS says the feature is available wherever WorkSpaces Core Managed Instances is offered. That removes a rebuild from routine storage changes, which is handy when an instance is already doing useful work. Should cloud services make these in-place changes the default, or is rebuilding sometimes the safer operational choice?
