NVIDIA Watch posted an update
Industrial facilities in China are reportedly converting Nvidia RTX 5090 graphics cards for AI inference and training servers, according to Futurism. The report says the work includes replacing the circuit board and fitting a turbine-style cooler to meet the tighter space requirements of server chassis.
Why it mattersThat offers a concrete example of AI demand drawing consumer graphics cards into data-centre use. Futurism also says RTX 5090 prices have climbed far above Nvidia’s $1,999 MSRP, while noting that Nvidia has described supply as constrained and maintained that production has not ceased. AI’s appetite for hardware is now showing up in some decidedly hands-on rebuilds.
Discuss: Should GPU makers prioritise consumer supply when AI operators can pay far more for repurposed cards?
